Asian Group Policies
There are three ‘policies’ in place to guide and govern the breeding and showing of Asian cats: the Registration Policy, the Standard of Points, and the Breeding Policy.
Registration Policy
Each breed recognised by the GCCF is controlled through the application of a Registration Policy (sometimes abbreviated to RegPol). The Asian Group is no exception. The Registration Policy dictates what breeds can be used in the breeding of pedigreed Asians, what colours are allowed and how inconsistencies are dealt with. There is a section on outcrossing that we’ve obviously had to pay particular attention to in our Australian Mist and Ocicat outcross programmes.
Standard of Points
When competing in shows, each breed is judged against a ‘standard of points’ (SOP). The Asian Group SOP has some aspects that apply to all the breeds in the group, and further sections specific to each of the Asian Group breeds. The SOP lays out what the judges should be looking for (and what type we, as breeders, should be aiming to produce), and gives them a framework on which to judge each exhibit against other exhibitors of the breed. A basic points system also gives the judges some method of comparing exhibits from different breeds.
Breeding Policy
The Asian Breeding Policy supplements the official GCCF Registration Policy by giving guidance as to how the policy should be implemented in order to improve the breed towards the Standard of Points.
